Solar Power Systems
Solar power is becoming increasingly popular for residential and commercial buildings alike. Whether you are interested in the environmental impact or your focus is more about cost-savings, your commercial roof must be appropriately prepared to reap the benefits solar offers.
Not all commercial roofing contractors choose to work in this niche. New Heights makes that choice because we believe it is a value to our clients and the future of roofing.
As a result, we have worked and trained diligently to ensure this specialization is one we excel at. We acknowledge that solar is a very heavy investment on your part and will ensure that your roof is ready to handle the load.
The benefits of moving to solar power, whether entirely or to supplement your existing electric service, are multiple. Please give us a call or contact us today to get started!
Roof Preparation
You probably wonder what specific preparation your roof requires for your solar installation. Though each roof is unique, we can provide a general overview.Pitch. To maximize efficiency, your solar array needs an inclination at least 10° above horizontal to allow for the panels to be cleaned by the rain, removing debris and dirt buildup. Areas of your roof may need to be built up or modified to allow for such an incline.
Static Load. The average solar array exerts an additional 10-15 kg/m2 on the roof structure. Your roof load capability must be determined and, if necessary, areas reinforced to ensure the load is supported sufficiently.
Mounting System. Many solar installers prefer to mount to metal roofing, but not all commercial building owners want to change their roofing system. The installation of metal support in determined areas may be necessary for the mounting of the array.
Coating. Adding a coating to the existing roofing system prior to the solar installation increases the efficacy of the system overall. By reflecting heat away from the roof, while the panels draw from the UV rays the end result is significantly enhanced.
